Call for Papers: Special Issue on Biometrics Security and Privacy

Biometrics is increasingly being used in a number of applications where the identity of an individual has to be established, e.g., face recognition in mobile payments and fingerprint recognition in border control systems. With the unique identifiers of your biology, such as face, fingerprint, iris, palm and vein, gait, speech, etc, this may seem foolproof. However, biometric identity has made many cautious about its use as standalone authentication and it also encounters a variety of security challenges. Particularly, the recent advent of techniques can generate photo-realistic fully synthetic images and videos via digital tools, high-fidelity physical presentation attacks, and adversarial attacks with human-imperceptible perturbations. The increasing prevalence of misinformation associated with such fabricated person identity information has raised the level of interest of biometric systems within the computer vision community. This special issue focuses on Biometric Security that might benefit from novel methods.
We invite paper submissions for the special issue on Biometric Security to be published in the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV). We welcome original research papers making theoretical and practical substantial contributions on this topic in connection to other computer vision and machine learning topics. The proposed SI will focus on all aspects related to attack detection and defense in biometrics. More specifically, the committee encourages the submission of papers making fundamental or practical contributions to Biometric Security in connection with various computer vision or machine learning topics including, but is not limited to:
● Novel methodologies on face anti-spoofing and face forgery detection
● Analysis and detection of biometric imagery and videos created by new synthesis model
● Adversarial attack and defense in biometrics
● Attack detection in broad biometrics (not limited to face, fingerprint, iris, palm print, gait, speech, bio-signal, etc)
● Theoretical analysis of robustness, generalization, and interpretability in biometric security
● Learning with fewer labels in biometric security
● Open-set biometric security with domain shifts and unknown attacks
● Multi-modal Biometric Analysis

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Special Issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least three independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Manuscripts will be subject to a peer reviewing process and must conform to the author guide lines available on the IJCV website at: https://www.springer.com/11263.
